Hunter X Hunter: Greed Island Arc Review

So, in the beginning of the year, I made a mistake of finishing up two arcs and one whole season of anime at the same time and that meant 3 posts to be produced and a whole lot of typing to do (thank God I like typing). Funny thing is, I still have two more shows to finish at the same time, and that means more typing for me (Thank God I quit my job). Today I talk about one of my favorite shows I am watching at the moment- Hunter X Hunter. Do well to watch out for SPOILERS and without further ado... IKUZOR!!!

Hunter X Hunter is about a very young boy- Gon Freecss- who embarks on a mission to train himself to become a hunter. He also searches for and reunites with his father who is not only alive, but also an accomplished hunter. The arc for today’s topic is the Greed Island arc. This arc is the fourth arc in the Hunter X Hunter show and personally I think this is the least entertaining. Greed Island is a game that was originally created by Gon's father Ging. It’s supposed to be for or played by nen users.  In order to fully understand what nen is, it would be best if you watch the show. To put simply, Nen is a basic ability that every skilled fighter possesses.  You'd think this means there'd be more fight scenes, right? But that wasn't the case at all! It was all about our main character’s training and, well, basically playing the game, which to me made almost every episode boring to watch. Another thing I found very frustrating was the fact that there was too much explanation, I get that it is a game and games require explaining but this was way too much. In my opinion, they didn't have to explain every single thing that happened.

This show has some of the weirdest characters I have come across and one of those is Hisoka. Hisoka is one of the main antagonists in the show and is a very unpredictable. I pretty much disliked his whole demeanor in the beginning cos the vibes he gave was too much to handle. Hisoka is the kind of character who does whatever he pleases whenever he pleases. In the Greed Island arc, he was shown in a different light if I must say. Even though he did have a sinister angle like he always does, to me he became likable which I know won’t last and I am looking forward to seeing what plans he has. There was also this new character introduced in this arc- Bisky. Now as far as weird characters go, she has to be the weirdest one I have seen so far. Bisky is a 57-year-old woman living in a 14-year-old body. Now what make her weird is her true and actual physic. This girl/woman is ripped af which makes you wonder what the hell she is eating.

Bisky (Yes both images are the same person).

Still on characters, let’s talk about our MC Gon, my boy gets beat up too much. Usually, it is part of a plan to stall for time or something but it still breaks my heart to see him getting fucked up. Killua on the other hand, who is Gon's best friend won’t give you that luxury. You might land a punch or two but you will definitely pay for it. I do understand that you win some and lose some but it breaks my heart to see him getting beat up.

Despite the fact that this whole arc was boring to me, things started to get pretty interesting towards the end. I don't really know how to explain it but it felt like that to me. Also, after Gon found what he was looking for at the end of game, things added up and it all felt wholesome. I hope all that will be worth it in the next arc. Once again its been a pleasure and I will be back after I'm done with the next arc. Don't forget to stay healthy and safe.
