BLEACH Arrancar: The Arrival Arc Review

In honor of the Thousand-Year Blood war arc and the fact that Bleach is one of the animes I am watching at the moment, I have decided to dedicate my first post of the year to Bleach. What’s good, geng? I hope y'all had a happy new year? Some of us don't really fret a lot on holidays but we've made it this far and we are thankful. As an avid anime person (even though I  haven't seen a lot), Bleach is the most difficult anime I happen to be watching. Difficult to watch in the sense that it takes me more energy to watch Bleach than to watch Naruto or even Food Wars. Don't get me wrong, this is a great show and it does have its moments but it is hard to watch. Also please watch out for SPOILERS. Anyway with that being said… IKUZOR!

Today we talk about Bleach Arrancar: The Arrival arc. This arc started off pretty interestingly with a nice surprise. For the first time in a long time we are briefly taught that Ichigo's father is way more than what we are used to seeing. This man always joked about how he was always training Ichigo with those sneak attacks which actually never made sense until this arc started. In the beginning of this arc, he actually fought one of those arrancar things. In the beginning, I didn't recognize him because he wasn't in his usual dad clothes. It wasn't until Urahara mentioned him that my attention was drawn to him, like "wait what the fuck?".  First question that popped up in my head was, "Why the fuck is Ichigo's father in a soul reaper uniform?" which was later explained. My guy was not just any soul reaper, he was once the captain of the 10th division. if you have seen Bleach you definitely know what I'm talking about and where this is going.

For those of you who don't know about Bleach, it is a story that follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki after he obtains the powers of a Soul Reaper—a death personification similar to the Grim Reaper—from another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki. His newfound powers force him to take on the duties of defending humans from evil spirits and guiding departed souls to the afterlife. Even though in the show Ichigo is a substitute soul reaper he has all the abilities of a soul reaper which includes the BANKAI. This term is only for soul reapers who have trained, mastered and known the true form of their zanpakuto (this is basically the swords used in the show). Not everyone who can activate and use bankai is guaranteed to win. Which brings me to my boy Ichigo, as cocky as he is, he gets dog walked by anyone even when he activates his bankai. He does start fighting in normal state and when he gets the shit beaten out of him, he proceeds to activate his bankai and still gets the shit beaten out of him. It's really sad for a main character this far in the show. Even the cry baby Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul after he got powers was never disrespected again. I know that some of you will not agree with me, which is fine because you  guys have seen OP Ichigo. But for the rest of us, that mur'fucker soft. and to put the icing on the cake, Grimjaw, one of the Arrancar he fought actually said that his bankai only activated his speed and nothing else and then proceeded to dog walk the shit out of him. Really sad for an MC. I know in the future he is definitely going to train and become unstoppable.

Ichigo's Bankai form

There was one thing that happened in this arc that I personally wanted to talk about and that is Urahars's decision to sit Inoue out of the battle they were preparing for. Orihime Inoue is one of the main side characters of the show and even though she has some powers, she is not strong like that at least this far in the show. To put it plainly, she can't hold her own. Maybe you've already seen this part and you may think "oh she's being sidelined cos she is a girl." Well let me tell you this: if you watch anime or know anything about it, you'd know that it's way far from that. There are strong and capable women who can hold their own in battles. Take Nobara from Jujutsu Kaisen, Yu Mira from The God Of High School, Noelle from Black Clover. I could go on and on about very strong and capable women who can own their own in battles. To me, Inoue is more of an emotional support type character in Bleach. She always looks out of place during fights and someone always has to come cover for or save her. So as much as I hate to admit this, Inoue would be a liability to them and looking at the kind of people they will be fighting makes full sense.

Speaking of capable female characters, let's take a moment to talk about the biggest bully in the show so far and that is Hiyori Sarugaki. This girl is shaping up to be my second favorite female character in Bleach. She is strong, bullies everyone accordingly especially Ichigo and I'm here for it. This girl actually has the strenth to fuck you up if you try to oppose her unlike someone I know *cough* Sakura *cough*. I hope we do see more of her.

Still on Hiyori, she is part of this group called Visored. This is a group of former Shinigami that are considered criminals because they have acquired hollow powers (long story). They were introduced in the previous arc and were detailed upon in this arc. Initially they came across as a villainous group, but after spending time with them, they don't seem villainous at all or maybe they may have a hidden motive we don't know yet. For now there isn't a lot to say about them, only that they want Ichigo on their side.

The Visored

Before I finish this piece I would like to talk about my favorite female character in the show and it's no other person than Rengiku Matsumoto. To me, she is the highlight of every scene she appears on. Matsumoto is the lieutenant of the 10th division in the Soul Society. So as you know she is strong. and the fact that I saw more of her in this arc is just awesome.

That's all for today, till I'm fine with the next arc. Until then,  stay safe. Stay healthy and don't forget to drink lots of water. ARIGATOGOZAIMASU!!!
